Privacy Policy

WattsEaten ("the app", "we", "us") is a mobile application that helps athletes log the food and drink consumed during their activities and share a nutrition summary to their Strava account. This policy explains what information the app collects, how it's used, and the choices you have. We've tried to keep it in plain language.

Information we collect

From your Strava account

When you connect WattsEaten to Strava, you authorize us (through Strava's official login flow) to access:

  • Your basic athlete profile (your Strava athlete ID and first name);
  • Your activities, including their name, type, date, distance, duration, route data, and calorie/energy estimates;
  • The ability to update your activity descriptions (this is how the fuel summary gets posted).

We never see or store your Strava password - login happens entirely on Strava's own pages. You can revoke WattsEaten's access at any time from your Strava account settings (Settings → My Apps), which immediately cuts off the app's access.

Information you create in the app

  • Fuel logs: the foods, drinks, and quantities you record for an activity, and the calculated nutrition totals;
  • Custom foods you create, including their names and nutrition values;
  • Your favorited foods;
  • App preferences (such as nutrition goals and notification settings), which are stored only on your device.

What we don't collect

  • No advertising identifiers - the app contains no ads;
  • No analytics or behavioral tracking SDKs;
  • No contacts, photos, precise device location, or health data from your device;
  • No payment information - the app is free during testing.

How your information is stored

Your fuel logs, custom foods, and favorites are stored on secure cloud servers, associated with an account identifier derived from your Strava athlete ID. This is what lets your data follow you across devices when you sign in with the same Strava account. Our cloud storage provider may store and process data on servers located in other countries, and access to your data is restricted to your authenticated account only.

Your data is protected by security rules so that only your authenticated account can read or write it. In-progress "live fueling" sessions and app preferences are stored locally on your device only.

How your information is used

  • To calculate and display your nutrition statistics;
  • To post the fuel summary you compose into your own Strava activity description, when you tap save;
  • To sync your data across your devices;
  • To understand which custom foods are commonly created, so we can improve the built-in food database (we may review custom food names and nutrition values in aggregate for this purpose);
  • To diagnose technical problems.

We do not sell your information, share it with advertisers, or use it for any purpose beyond operating and improving WattsEaten.

What gets posted publicly

The fuel summary is written into your Strava activity description, and its visibility follows your own Strava privacy settings - if your activities are public, the summary will be too. You control exactly which statistics are included via the app's settings, and you can edit or delete the description on Strava at any time like any other activity text.

Data retention and deletion

Your data is retained for as long as you use the app. To request deletion of your data (fuel logs, custom foods, favorites, and account identifier), email us at wattseaten@gmail.com from any address, including your Strava athlete name or ID so we can locate your records, and we'll delete them within 30 days. Revoking the app's access in your Strava settings stops all data collection immediately but does not by itself delete previously stored data - email us for that.

Third-party services

The app relies on the following third-party services:

  • Strava - for authentication and activity data. See Strava's Privacy Policy.
  • A cloud infrastructure provider - for secure authentication and data storage, so your information can sync across your devices.

Children

WattsEaten is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect information from them.

Changes to this policy

If we make material changes to this policy, we'll update this page and revise the "last updated" date above. Continued use of the app after changes means you accept the updated policy.
